WIZARDS 96, CAVALIERS 85: John Wall had 21 points and 13 assists as Washington won its fifth straight.
The Wizards took a 53-49 lead into the half and held it throughout the second half, extending it to as many as 17 on a night the Cavaliers limited Kyrie Irving’s minutes.
Irving, who averaged 21.5 points in his last three games, woke up with the stomach flu on Wednesday and was initially doubtful to play. He wound up playing, but saw less than 10 minutes in the first quarter and did not return. He finished with five points and an assist.
Kevin Seraphin had 12 points, Nene had 12 points and seven rebounds and James Singleton had 10 points for the Wizards, who haven’t lost since the Cavaliers beat them at home on April 14. The Wizards are still locked into the league’s second-worst record despite the winning streak.
Antawn Jamison was the only starter to score in double figures for the Cavaliers with 10 points.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Cavaliers rookie D.J. Kennedy had 12 points and six rebounds off the bench in his NBA debut. … Jan Vesely had 12 rebounds for the Wizards. … Wall’s 13 assists fell two shy of his career high, set earlier this season.
