Angels 2, Astros 1: Jered Weaver pitched a two-hitter and Albert Pujols hit his 505th career home run to break a tie for host Los Angeles.
Weaver (5-3) needed 94 pitches to record his 12th complete game while improving to 5-1 with a 1.51 ERA in his last seven starts. Erick Aybar also drove in a run for the Angels, who won for the 10th time in their last 13 contests and improved to 5-2 on their 10-game homestand.
Rookie George Springer homered and Jason Castro doubled for Houston, which was denied in its bid to win three straight series for the first time since 2010. Collin McHugh (2-3) allowed two runs and four hits while striking out seven in seven innings in his first appearance against Los Angeles.
The Angels took a 1-0 lead in the third as Efren Navarro singled and advanced to second on Howie Kendrick's groundout before Aybar drove him home with a two-out single. Houston tied it when Springer hit Weaver's first pitch of the fourth over the wall in left-center.
Pujols cracked a 2-1 pitch into Los Angeles' bullpen with one out in the sixth for his 13th of the season, snapping a tie with Eddie Murray for 25th place on the all-time home run list. Weaver hit Springer with a pitch with one out in the ninth before he picked off the rookie - who appeared to suffer a leg injury scrambling back to first base - and retired Dexter Fowler on a pop fly on the next pitch to end it.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Pujols trails Gary Sheffield - 24th on the all-time home run list - by four. ... .. Angels CF Mike Trout did not play after leaving Tuesday's game with tightness in his left hamstring. ... Houston's Jose Altuve went 0-for-4 after hitting .418 during his career-best 12-game hitting streak.
