Rangers 1, Flames 0: Cam Talbot recorded his seventh career shutout and rookie Kevin Hayes scored exactly three minutes into the third period as host New York improved to 10-1-2 in its last 13 contests.

Derick Brassard notched the lone assist for his career-high 48th point with the Rangers, who completed a two-game series sweep of Calgary and improved to 9-1-1 versus Pacific Division representatives. The modest offense proved to be enough for the 27-year-old Talbot, who finished with 21 saves for his fourth shutout of the season and improved to 7-1-2 in place of the injured Henrik Lundqvist.

Karri Ramo turned aside 28 shots for the Flames, who opened a season-high seven-game road trip by dropping their third straight contest (0-2-1). The 28-year-old Finn made his presence felt early, diving to his left to make a brilliant glove save on an unmarked J.T. Miller at 1:46 of the first period.

Mats Zuccarello's dump-in was flubbed by Calgary defenseman Dennis Wideman, allowing Brassard to gain possession and set up Hayes' shot from the right faceoff circle that sailed inside the near post. The contest's lone goal was Hayes' 12th of the season and second in as many games.

Hayes nearly netted his second of the contest later in the third after deking Ramo to the ice, but Wideman atoned for his earlier miscue by clearing the puck from along the goal line. Calgary mustered only six shots in the final session en route to suffering the hard-luck loss.

GAME NOTEBOOK: New York LW Rick Nash sat out due to neck spasms and was replaced by C Oscar Lindberg, who registered two shots and won 2-of-5 faceoffs while making his NHL debut. ... Calgary LW Emile Poirier also appeared in his first NHL game and logged 8:10 of ice time. ... The Flames thwarted both of the Rangers' power plays and are a perfect 22-for-22 on the penalty kill in their last 12 games. New York is 0-for-15 with the man advantage in its last six contests.
