Blue Jackets 5, Flyers 2: Matt Calvert scored twice while Brandon Dubinsky and Ryan Johansen each recorded a goal and an assist as visiting Columbus halted Philadelphia's nine-game point streak (6-0-3).
Defenseman James Wisniewski also tallied for the Blue Jackets, who improved to 1-1-0 on their five-game road trip. Former Flyer Scott Hartnell extended his point streak to seven games with a pair of assists, Alexander Wennberg also set up two goals and Curtis McElhinney made 42 saves for Columbus, which was without Nick Foligno due to a lower-body injury.
Blue-liner Michael Del Zotto scored a goal and set up Wayne Simmonds' tally for the Flyers, who lost four of the five games in the season series (1-2-2). Ray Emery turned aside 20 shots as Philadelphia lost in regulation for the first time since Jan. 19 against the New York Islanders.
Columbus needed only eight seconds of power-play time to cash in and take the lead, as Wisniewski buried a shot from the right faceoff circle at 4:51 of the first period. The Blue Jackets doubled the advantage 1:48 later, when defenseman David Savard's shot from the right point pinballed off Corey Tropp, Johansen and Flyers blue-liner Luke Schenn's stick before entering the net.
Del Zotto played a major role in knotting the contest as his shot from the left point was deflected in by Simmonds with 2:35 left in the second session and his blast from along the left-wing boards sailed past McElhinney 1:43 later. Columbus capitalized on a turnover moments after Emery made a superb save on Cam Atkinson, who received a pass from Dubinsky and set up Calvert alone on the doorstep at 9:54 of the third to snap the tie.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Dubinsky gave the Blue Jackets breathing room with 6:32 remaining in the third period, converting the rebound of Hartnell's shot on the doorstep, and Calvert sealed the win with an empty-netter. ... Columbus has scored 26 goals over its last six games, with 24 coming at even strength. ... Calvert's two-goal performance was his second of the season, as he also tallied twice on Jan. 17 at Boston. ... Hartnell has collected three goals and seven assists during his point streak, while Simmonds' goal gave him four tallies and three assists on his five-game run.
