Canucks 5, Sabres 2: Chris Higgins shook off a prolonged slump with a goal and an assist and Ryan Miller turned aside 20 shots against his former team as host Vancouver handed Buffalo its franchise-record 14th consecutive loss.
Rookie Bo Horvat, Nick Bonino and defenseman Yannick Weber also scored while All-Star Radim Vrbata added an empty-netter for the Canucks, who halted a two-game skid while improving to 1-1-0 on their six-game homestand. Captain Henrik Sedin set up two tallies and blue-liner Chris Tanev also chipped in a pair of assists for his first multi-point performance since Oct. 8.
Chris Stewart netted a pair of power-play goals for the Sabres, who haven't recorded a point since Dec. 27 and have been outscored 61-21 over the course of their slide. Matt Hackett made 33 saves in his season debut.
Stewart opened the scoring four minutes into the contest, burying a loose puck from in close. Horvat drew the Canucks even in the final 30 seconds of the period, jamming the puck over the goal line after a mad scramble in the crease.
Weber gave the Canucks their first lead 1:43 into the middle period and Bonino made it 3-1 just over 2 1/2 minutes later, ripping a backhander past Hackett after the puck deflected high in the air at the left edge of the crease for Vancouver's second straight man-advantage tally. Stewart's second of the night at 14:16 trimmed the deficit, but Higgins restored Vancouver's two-goal lead at 5:31 of the third with a wrist shot off a pass from Tanev.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Miller spent parts of 11 seasons with the Sabres, leading them to the Eastern Conference final in both 2006 and 2007. ... Higgins came into the night with one goal and two assists over his previous 22 games. ... Vancouver converted twice on four power-play opportunties to end an 0-for-15 slump with the man advantage over its previous four contests.
