Canadiens 2, Bruins 0: Carey Price made 33 saves to record his 27th career shutout and Tomas Plekanec collected a goal and an assist as visiting Montreal defeated Boston for the third time in as many meetings this season.
Defenseman Andrei Markov scored on the power play for his 100th goal of his career for the Canadiens, who have won eight of their last nine contests. Brendan Gallagher notched a pair of assists in the victory.
Tuukka Rask turned aside 21 shots for the Bruins, who saw their three-game winning streak overall and six-game stretch at home come to a halt. Boston failed to score on both of its power plays in the setback.
Price, who has been in net for all three meetings with the Bruins, improved to 20-8-3 in his career against the Atlantic Division rival. The 27-year-old highlighted his second shutout of the season by stopping all 13 shots he faced in both the first and third periods.
With his team on the power play, Plekanec won a faceoff draw and Gallagher tipped the puck to Markov, who unleashed a low shot that sailed past a screened Rask to open the scoring midway through the first period. Plekanec doubled the advantage 8:59 into the second as he backhanded home a rebound following his team's 4-on-2 rush.
GAME NOTEBOOK: The Canadiens held a lead after the first period for just the second time in 22 games this season. ... Boston's Claude Julien coached his 800th game. ... Montreal D Bryan Allen registered three hits and logged 14:30 of ice time in his first game since being acquired from Anaheim for F Rene Bourque.
