Louisville is finding its new surroundings just yummy.
A thundering dunk by Stephan Van Treese almost two minutes into the second half sparked the Cardinals’ offense, and Louisville went on to an 80-66 victory over Marshall on Saturday in the fourth game at the KFC Yum Center.
Louisville (4-0) had trouble shaking Marshall in the first half. It held a 29-19 lead with seven minutes to go in the first half, but Marshall’s Dago Pena capped a 10-0 run over three minutes with a 3-pointer that tied the score at 29-29. Later, as the buzzer sounded, a tip-in by Marshall’s Tirrell Baines put the Herd (3-2) up 34-33 at halftime.
Van Treese’s dunk, coming with 18:09 to go, provided the jolt Louisville needed to jump-start its offense. Louisville never trailed following the basket.
In an evenly-balanced game, Peyton Siva, Mike Marra and Rakeem Buckles all scored 12 points for the Cardinals. Elisha Justice added 10 points.
DeAndre Kane scored 25 points and pulled down seven rebounds for Marshall, but he also committed six of the Herd’s 19 turnovers.
