Franz Wagner racked up 34 points to help the hot-shooting Orlando Magic to an emphatic 127-111 win over the visiting San Antonio Spurs on Thursday.
The Magic led by 17 points at the half and by 23 before San Antonio whittled the deficit to 95-85 late in the third quarter. But Orlando quickly rebuilt its advantage to 20 points when Joe Ingles hit a finger-roll layup three minutes into the final period, and the Spurs never got closer than 13 points the rest of the way.
Jalen Suggs added 17 points for Orlando, with Paolo Banchero scoring 16, Cole Anthony hitting for 12 points and Moritz Wagner and Wendell Carter Jr. tallying 11 and 10 points, respectively. The Magic won for the fourth time in five games and swept the season series from San Antonio.
Devin Vassell hit for 30 points, all in the second half, to lead San Antonio, which has dropped six straight outings and the first two of their nine-games-in-21-days road trip. The Spurs also got 15 points from Victor Wembanyama, 12 each from Zach Collins and Keldon Johnson, and 10 apiece from Tre Jones and Blake Wesley.
The Magic never trailed in the opening quarter, scoring the first nine points before San Antonio rallied to tie the game at 20 when Johnson canned a 3-pointer with seven seconds remaining. Ingles immediately answered with a 3-pointer of his own the push the Magic to a 23-20 lead after 12 minutes of play.
The Spurs drew to within 42-40 on Jeremy Sochan's 3-pointer at the 4:28 mark of the second quarter. Orlando answered with an 8-0 run capped by a pullup jumper by Suggs with 2:40 to play in the period. Banchero scored six straight points and Franz Wagner added a reverse layup and a 3-pointer, the latter with a second to play in the half, to push the Magic's lead to 61-44 at the break.
Franz Wagner led all scorers with 15 points before halftime while Banchero added 12 for the Magic. Julian Champagnie and Wesley paced the Spurs with eight points each at the half.
Orlando expanded its advantage to 23 points early in the third quarter and was up 80-57 when Suggs poured in a 3-pointer with 7:14 to play in the period.
