Marlins 3, Mets 2: Henderson Alvarez pitched 6 1/3 scoreless innings as host Miami tied the four-game series at one win apiece.
Adeiny Hechavarria drove in a pair of runs and left fielder Marcell Ozuna threw out the potential tying run at the plate in each of the final two innings for the Marlins, who improved to 3-5 on their 10-game homestand. Alvarez (4-3) struck out five before Steve Cishek capped a shaky performance by Miami's bullpen with his 17th save when Ozuna fired a strike home to nail Kirk Nieuwenhuis on Chris Young's fly ball to end the game.
David Wright recorded a pair of hits and an RBI while pinch hitter Eric Campbell delivered a run-scoring single for New York, which had its modest two-game winning streak halted. Daisuke Matsuzaka (3-1) took the loss despite yielding just one run on six hits over 5 1/3 innings.
Matsuzaka surrendered a leadoff triple to Rafael Furcal in the first inning and an RBI groundout by Hechavarria. Garrett Jones appeared to extend the lead when his blast down the right-field line in the fourth was ruled a two-run homer, but it was overturned and called foul upon an umpires' review.
The Marlins made it 3-0 in the seventh, parlaying a single and two stolen bases by Jake Marisnick and a pair of errors into two runs, but Wright delivered an RBI single in the eighth against Kevin Gregg to get New York on the board. Mike Dunn came on and walked Curtis Granderson to load the bases before giving up a run-scoring single by Campbell, but Ozuna gunned down Wright at home on the play.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Henderson has not allowed a run versus the Mets for 18 1/3 innings. ... Wright ran his hitting streak to five games with his sixth-inning double and has recorded an RBI in four straight contests. ... Marlins 3B Casey McGehee has hit safely in 14 of his last 15 games.
