Mets 1, Marlins 0: Zack Wheeler allowed three hits in his first career shutout and David Wright homered as visiting New York won the opener of a four-game series.
Wright went deep in the first inning for the only run and Wheeler (3-7) made it stand up, walking just one and striking out eight in the first complete game of his career. Wheeler was helped out by three double plays and had faced the minimum number of batters until Reed Johnson singled with two outs in the ninth..
Left-hander Andrew Heaney (0-1) was a hard-luck loser in his major-league debut, allowing one run and four hits through six innings. The No. 9 overall pick in the 2012 draft threw 91 pitches - 56 for strikes.
Wright provided Wheeler with the only run he needed, hammering a fastball into the home run sculpture in straightaway center field for his six blast of the season and second in three games to send the Marlins to their sixth loss in eight contests.
Casey McGehee reached twice on a hit and walk but was erased on double plays in the second and fifth inning. Jarrod Saltalamacchia opened the sixth with a single but Adeiny Hechavarria followed by grounding into a 4-6-3 double play.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Wright has hit safely in four straight games following a horrid 2-for-39 slump. ... McGehee has hit safely in 13 of his last 14 games. ... Wheeler was the first New York pitcher to toss a complete game since Jon Niese on Aug. 27, 2013.
