Mariners 3, Twins 0:
Kendrys Morales hit a two-run homer and Hisashi Iwakuma pitched 7 2/3 innings as visiting Seattle beat Minnesota in the opener of a three-game series.

Jesus Sucre added a run-scoring single and Tom Wilhelmsen rebounded from a blown save in his last outing to work a perfect ninth for his 12th save to end the Twins’ four-game winning streak. The Mariners have won four of their last six games.

Kyle Seager led off the Seattle sixth with a single off Mike Pelfrey (3-6) before Morales sent a booming shot over the center-field fence. Sucre singled home Raul Ibanez later in the inning.

Iwakuma (6-1) struck out five and allowed seven hits and two walks while winning his fourth straight decision. He is 3-0 in three career starts against Minnesota and hasn’t allowed an earned run against them in 20 2/3 innings.

Pelfrey gave up three runs and six hits in 5 1/3 innings to lose for the fifth time in his last six decisions. Pedro Florimon went 3-for-3 for the Twins.

GAME NOTEBOOK:
Seattle will recall RHP Jeremy Bonderman from Triple-A Tacoma to start Sunday’s game. Bonderman last pitched in the majors for Detroit in 2010. … Minnesota RF Chris Parmelee reached base three times on two hits and a walk. … Mariners OF Michael Morse (quadriceps) sat out for the third straight game and 1B Justin Smoak (oblique) wasn’t in the lineup for the sixth straight game. Smoak pinch hit in Thursday’s game against San Diego.
