Red Sox 3, Yankees 0 (6): David Ortiz and Jose Iglesias homered and Clay Buchholz was strong through five innings as visiting Boston took the rain-shortened series finale at New York.

Ortiz had moments earlier blasted his 10th home run into the stands in right-center off Hiroki Kuroda (6-4) when the game went into a rain delay. The teams returned to finish off the top of the sixth before another thunderstorm arrived and eventually wiped out the contest.

Buchholz (8-0), who was pitching for the first time since May 22 after dealing with irritation in the AC joint near his collarbone, allowed two hits and struck out four in five innings. Mike Napoli added an RBI for the Red Sox, who took two of three in the series to open up a 2 1/2-game lead over Baltimore and a three-game edge over the Yankees in the American League East.

Back-to-back singles by Dustin Pedroia and Ortiz to lead off the fourth left runners on the corners for Napoli, who grounded into a fielder’s choice to push across the game’s first run. Iglesias led off the fifth with his first homer of the season, belting a first-pitch sinker into the seats in left.

Kuroda was charged with all three runs on eight hits in 5 1/3 innings. Ichiro Suzuki and Austin Romine each singled as the Yankees fell for the seventh time in the last eight games.

GAME NOTEBOOK: The game was delayed 45 minutes at the start and then halted twice in the sixth inning by rain. … Red Sox CF Jacoby Ellsbury (groin) missed his third straight game but is planning to return to the lineup on Tuesday, when Boston opens a three-game series against the Texas Rangers. RF Shane Victorino (hamstring) is eligible to come off the 15-day DL on Wednesday but is not yet running at 100 percent and has had his rehab assignment delayed. … Yankees C Chris Stewart, who left Saturday’s game due to dehydration, was scratched from Sunday’s start and went to the hospital for further tests.
