Orioles 3, Yankees 2: Chris Davis hit a two-run single in the third inning and Wei-Yin Chen pitched 6 1/3 solid innings in his postseason debut as host Baltimore evened the American League Division Series at one win apiece.

Mark Reynolds also drove in a run and Jim Johnson redeemed himself by tossing a perfect ninth for the save for the Orioles, who head to Yankee Stadium for Game 3 on Wednesday. Johnson retired only one of the six batters he faced in the series-opening loss.

Following the script from the series opener, Baltimore scored twice in the third to erase a 1-0 deficit. Robert Andino and Nate McLouth hit two-out singles and J.J. Hardy walked before Davis plated two with a base hit to right field.

The Orioles added a much-needed insurance run in the sixth as Matt Wieters led off with a double and scored on Reynolds' single to right. The run proved crucial as Derek Jeter singled in the seventh to plate Eduardo Nunez, who opened the frame with a double.

Chen (1-0) limited the Yankees to two runs - one earned - and eight hits with a walk and three strikeouts. Darren O'Day and Brian Matusz combined for 1 2/3 scoreless innings before Johnson shut the door.

Andy Pettitte (0-1) failed to add to his all-time postseason wins total, surrendering three runs and seven hits in seven frames. The veteran left-hander, who walked one and struck out five, has a major league-record 19 playoff victories.

For the second straight game, New York took a 1-0 lead in the first inning as Robinson Cano delivered a two-out RBI double to right field. Second baseman Andino's relay throw home was well ahead of Ichiro Suzuki, but the crafty veteran danced around catcher Wieters and avoided a pair of tag attempts before safely touching the plate.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Baltimore missed a chance to add to its lead in the third as Hardy stopped at third on a single by Adam Jones despite being waved in by third base coach DeMarlo Hale. Wieters popped out to end the inning. ... Chen escaped a bases-loaded, one-out jam in the fourth, getting Nunez on a soft pop-up to short and inducing a groundout by Jeter. ... The top two teams in home runs during the regular season have combined for one in the first two games of the series.
