Felix Hernandez allowed one unearned run in eight innings to defeat the Los Angeles Angels for the second time in six days as the visiting Seattle Mariners posted a 2-1 victory on Tuesday.
Hernandez improved to 6-9 in his career against Los Angeles, which had a three-game winning streak snapped and fell 3 1/2 games behind the Texas Rangers in the American League West.
Hernandez (14-11) gave up only four hits and struck out seven as he helped Seattle end its five-game losing streak.
Brandon League worked a flawless ninth for his 33rd save.
Seattle took advantage of three Los Angeles errors to score both its runs. Errors by Alberto Callaspo and Ervin Santana (11-10) set up Trayvon Robinson’s sacrifice fly in the second, and an error by Erick Aybar in the fourth led to Kyle Seager scoring when Michael Saunders hit into a fielder’s choice.
Hernandez’s throwing error on Torii Hunter’s bunt single in the sixth preceded Callaspo’s two-out, run-scoring single.
Santana gave up seven hits and lost for only the second time in 10 decisions.
