No. 1 Kentucky 72, No. 5 Kansas 40: Dakari Johnson scored 11 points, Andrew Harrison added 10 and Karl-Anthony Towns contributed nine points, eight rebounds and four blocks as the Wildcats rolled over the Jayhawks in convincing fashion at the Champions Classic in Indianapolis.

Willie Cauley-Stein pulled down 10 rebounds and Marcus Lee chipped in four blocks for Kentucky (3-0), which held a 47-42 rebounding advantage and blocked 11 shots to help overcome poor shooting across the board. The Wildcats shot 43.1 percent from the field, made only 6-of-18 3-pointers and missed 10 of their 26 free throws, but their defensive performance was as good as it gets.

Kansas (1-1) shot only 19.6 percent - below 25 percent in each half - and did not help its cause with 15-of-27 foul shooting and 11 turnovers. Wayne Selden Jr. had a team-high nine points for the Jayhawks, whose starting frontcourt of Perry Ellis and Jamari Traylor combined for six points on 1-of-12 shooting while another starter, Frank Mason, shot 1-of-10 for seven points.

Kansas had as many shots blocked (eight) as field goals made in the first half, and the Jayhawks shot only 24.2 percent in the opening 20 minutes en route to a 38-28 deficit at intermission. Aaron Harrison's 3-pointer about 3 1/2 minutes into the game gave the Wildcats the lead for good and his second 3-pointer with about three minutes left in the half gave Kentucky its biggest lead to that point at 35-17.

The Wildcats held the Jayhawks without a point for nearly 5 1/2 minutes to start the second half and never looked back, holding Kansas to 3-of-23 shooting in the second stanza. Freshman Cliff Alexander finished with eight points and eight boards for Kansas, which was held below 50 points for the first time since a 2005 game against Arizona.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Ten players scored in the first half and 12 players scored in the second half for Kentucky, which leads the all-time series 22-6. ... Kansas freshman G Kelly Oubre Jr., an All-American who played only four minutes in the Jayhawks' last game, contributed six points and four rebounds on 2-of-3 shooting. The rest of the Jayhawks' starters combined to shoot 6-of-34. ... Kentucky, which has nine McDonald's All-Americans on its roster, committed just six turnovers.
