South Carolina 87, Morgan State 71: LaShay Page scored 20 points to lead five Gamecocks in double digits as South Carolina pulled away from the visiting Bears to improve to 2-0 under first-year coach Frank Martin.
Eric Smith added 17 points and Brenton Williams had 14 for South Carolina, which shot 52.6 percent to help overcome 20 turnovers. Brian Richardson and R.J. Slawson added 10 points apiece for the Gamecocks.
Justin Black scored 20 points on 9-of-13 shooting and Anthony Hubbard added 15 points for the Bears (1-3), who also committed 20 turnovers and were outrebounded 35-22. DeWayne Jackson had 11 points, six assists and five steals but also committed eight turnovers for the Bears.
Page, a transfer from Southern Mississippi, has averaged 19.5 points in his first two games with the Gamecocks.
Smith hit five free throws in the final 1:31 to put it away and finish one point short of his career high.
