Josh Owens scored nine of his 15 points in the second half and Stanford remained unbeaten with a 64-52 win over visiting Colorado State on Tuesday in the second round of the Dick’s Sporting Goods NIT Season Tip-Off.
Aaron Bright and Gabriel Harris scored 12 points each for Stanford (3-0), which advances to the NIT semifinals at Madison Square Garden next week.
Wes Eikmeier scored 13 points and Jesse Carr and Greg Smith added 10 apiece for Colorado State (2-1), which shot just 7-of-27 (25.9 percent) in the second half.
One night after scoring a career-high 21 points, Bright continued to show why Stanford coach Johnny Dawkins called him the team’s most improved player. The sophomore is averaging 16.3 points through three games.
Colorado State led by as many as 11 in the first half, but Stanford finished the half on a 11-2 run, capped by Harris’ 3-pointer at the buzzer from beyond half-court to cut the Rams’ lead to 33-31.
Stanford forward Dwight Powell, who missed the first two games with an ankle injury, went scoreless in five minutes.
