DUKE 74, FLORIDA STATE 66: Andre Dawkins hit six of Duke’ 13 3-pointers and finished with 22 points as fourth-ranked Blue Devils shot their way past host Florida State and into a first-place tie with North Carolina atop the ACC.
Freshman Austin Rivers added 20 points for Duke (24-4, 11-2 ACC), which avenged an earlier loss to the Seminoles and clinched a first-round bye in the upcoming ACC Tournament.
A sellout crowd was hoping to see Florida State (19-8, 10-3) win three straight against Duke for the first time and gain the inside track toward its first-ever ACC title. The Seminoles won the first meeting when Michael Snaer’s buzzer-beating 3-pointer ended Duke’s 45-game home winning streak on Jan. 14.
This time, the best 3-point shooting team in the ACC showed Florida State how it’s done. Dawkins hit five of the Blue Devils’ seven first-half 3-pointers, which helped Duke to a 39-32 halftime lead.
The advantage ballooned to 13 points early in the second half before Florida State rallied. Bernard James’ three-point play cut the Blue Devils’ lead to 61-58 with 4:18 left, but Seth Curry hit a 3-pointer and a pair of free throws, and Miles Plumlee’s layup with 1:30 left all but sealed the win.
Snaer scored 18 points for Florida State, which had its four-game winning streak snapped.
