Freshman Thomas Gipson recorded season highs of 23 points and 12 rebounds and Kansas State extended its non-conference home winning streak to 38 games with a 79-68 overtime win over North Florida on Sunday.
Jamar Samuels and Will Spradling each had 12 points for the Wildcats (6-1), who outscored the Ospreys 19-8 in the extra session. It was the second straight overtime game for Kansas State, which suffered its first loss in double-overtime to West Virginia on Thursday night.
Parker Smith and Jimmy Williams Jr. each scored 13 points for the Ospreys (5-5), who had their four-game winning streak snapped. North Florida was seeking to become the first team to win in Bramlage Coliseum since then-No. 17 Oregon posted an 80-77 overtime victory in 2007.
Williams’ layup with four seconds left sent the game into overtime. The Ospreys took a 63-62 lead on a 3-pointer from Jerron Granberry 30 seconds into the extra session, but Gipson’s layup moments later gave the Wildcats the lead for good.
Kansas State led 32-25 at the half. But North Florida opened the second half on a 24-8 run and led 49-40 before the Wildcats tied the game at 55 thanks to a 15-6 spurt.
