Nets 103, Spurs 89: Alan Anderson scored 22 points off the bench to lead host Brooklyn past shorthanded San Antonio.
Deron Williams had 16 points and eight assists and Paul Pierce added 12 points and the Nets, who broke a six-game losing streak against the Spurs. Brooklyn grabbed a season-best 53 rebounds and had a 15-board advantage to go with a 56-32 edge in points in the paint.
Cory Joseph scored 18 points and Danny Green added 17 for the Spurs, who were without Tony Parker (back), Tim Duncan (rest) and Boris Diaw (food poisoning). Patty Mills tallied 16 points for San Antonio, which had a three-game winning streak come to an end and also continues to be without key players Manu Ginobili (hamstring) and Kawhi Leonard (finger).
Duncan was held out after playing 40 minutes in Wednesday’s double-overtime victory over Washington and the Spurs lacked a go-to threat with he and Parker on the sidelines. San Antonio trailed 92-83 with 4:18 to go after two free throws by Marco Belinelli before Brooklyn put the game away with an 11-1 dash that increase its lead to 19.
The Nets led 40-39 at the half and stretched the advantage to 11 on Pierce’s three-point play with 4:37 left in the third quarter. The Spurs pulled within two late in the stanza before Brooklyn took a 75-68 edge into the fourth quarter.
GAME NOTEBOOK: The loss was the first in three games for San Antonio during its nine-game rodeo trip. … G Joe Johnson (knee), F Andrei Kirilenko (calf) and F Andray Blatche (hip) all returned from injuries for the Nets with Blatche (10 points) being the only one to score in double digits. … Spurs G Nando de Colo scored 11 points in 27 minutes and returned to play with a mask after breaking his nose in the first half, while F Matt Bonner left early in the fourth quarter after taking a shot to the nose he broke on Jan. 17 and was slated to be re-examined to see if he broke it a second time.
