Spurs 125, Wizards 118 (2OT): Tim Duncan scored a season-high 31 points and grabbed 11 rebounds as visiting San Antonio defeated Washington for the 16th consecutive time.
Patty Mills scored 11 of his 23 points in the two overtimes while filling in for Tony Parker, who played only 19 minutes before exiting with back tightness. Danny Green added 22 points and hit a key 3-pointer in the second overtime for the Spurs, who are off to a 2-0 start on the nine-game rodeo road trip.
John Wall had 29 points, nine assists and four steals and Bradley Beal scored 19 points for the Wizards. Trevor Ariza contributed 15 points and 10 rebounds for Washington, which forced a second overtime on Wall’s steal and basket.
The Wizards had a 99-94 lead after a basket by Ariza with 2:40 left in regulation before Mills drained a 3-pointer and Duncan followed with a basket to knot the score. The Spurs missed three shots in the final five seconds of regulation but Mills scored seven straight San Antonio points in the first overtime, including a 3-pointer to make it 111-104 with two minutes left.
Wall took over by scoring 10 points over the final 1:24 and his steal and driving layup with 1.4 seconds left forced a second overtime. Marco Belinelli’s jumper with 2:01 left in the second extra session snapped a tie and Green followed with his fifth 3-pointer of the contest as San Antonio finished strong.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Duncan has topped 20 points in three consecutive games and is averaging 25 during the stretch. … Washington forced 20 turnovers had a 25-10 edge in fast-break points. … The Spurs were 9-of-28 from 3-point range with Green and Mills (four) combining for all the makes.
