Four 76ers turnovers in the opening four minutes of the second frame allowed the Timberwolves to reduce the deficit to 11, but Young and Hawes hit consecutive baseline layups to spark a late outburst as Philadelphia rode a 61-48 advantage into the break.
Love's first 3-pointer of the night moved Minnesota to within three points early in the third and Rubio buried a game-tying 3 from the left wing with under two minutes remaining, but Hawes answered from long range as Philadelphia led 81-78 entering the fourth. A long Robbie Hummel jumper with just over 8 1/2 minutes left gave the Timberwolves their first lead, Dante Cunningham tacked on a transition layup and Minnesota held off the 76ers the rest of the way.
