Pelicans 131, Bulls 128 (3OT): Ryan Anderson scored a career-high 36 points and Jrue Holiday’s three-point play with 2.6 seconds left in the third overtime gave visiting New Orleans its sixth win in eight games.
Holiday recorded 19 points, including his driving layup down the lane after Joakim Noah had tied it for Chicago with 4.5 seconds left, and added 12 assists for the Pelicans. Eric Gordon drained the tying 3-pointer with 10.2 seconds left in the first overtime and had 23 points for New Orleans.
Luol Deng tied the game with a late basket in the second overtime and finished with 37 points for the Bulls, who lost for the first time in six games at home this season. Taj Gibson contributed a career-best 26 points and 14 rebounds while Mike Dunleavy added 23 points and Noah had 19 points and 10 boards for Chicago.
Gordon made four big baskets after the midway point of the fourth
quarter, capped by a 3-pointer that gave New Orleans a 99-98 lead with
1:10 remaining in regulation. Noah’s dunk and Dunleavy’s free throw
pushed the Bulls in front 103-101 before Holiday’s step-back jumper with
3.9 seconds left sent the game to overtime.
Gibson scored 14 points and Deng had 11 while Chicago shot 59 percent from the field to edge away for a 56-50 advantage at intermission. New Orleans erased an eight-point deficit and led by as much as six in the third quarter, but Dunleavy hit a pair of 3-pointers to help Chicago push in front 80-77 going to the fourth.
GAME NOTEBOOK: New Orleans F Anthony Davis was inactive due to a fractured left hand, suffered Sunday against New York, and will be evaluated when the team returns home Tuesday. … Deng played a team-high 56 minutes (Anderson played 57 for New Orleans) and Kirk Hinrich played 53 for the Bulls, registering 13 points and 11 assists. … New Orleans C Jason Smith had 12 points and 14 rebounds for his first double-double of the season.
