BULLS 98, KNICKS 86: Richard Hamilton scored 18 of his 20 points in the third quarter to help Chicago down visiting New York.
Luol Deng had 19 points and 10 rebounds and Kyle Korver scored 11 of his 14 points in the final quarter as the Bulls avenged Sunday’s overtime loss to the Knicks in New York despite the absence of reigning MVP Derrick Rose.
Carmelo Anthony scored 29 points for New York, which fell to eighth place in the Eastern Conference on the eve of Wednesday’s crucial contest at ninth-place Milwaukee.
Rose sprained his right ankle during Sunday’s loss to the New York Knicks, which was his first contest after missing 12 straight with a groin injury. Rose has been sidelined for 23 games this season with four different injuries.
Hamilton was playing in his fourth game since returning from a shoulder injury and had only two first-half points. But he scored Chicago’s last eight points of the third quarter to help the Bulls take a 72-62 lead into the final stanza.
Chicago led by double digits most of the fourth quarter and took a 92-77 lead on Korver’s 3-pointer with 3:25 remaining.
Carlos Boozer added 10 points for the Bulls, who made nine 3-pointers and had a 51-33 rebounding advantage.
J.R. Smith added 14 points, Iman Shumpert scored 12 and Tyson Chandler had 10 points and 15 rebounds for the Knicks.
Chicago scored New York 25-10 in the second quarter to take a 47-35 halftime lead. The Knicks were 4 of 21 from the field in the quarter.
