PISTONS 102, MAGIC 95: Greg Monroe had 22 points and 11 rebounds and Ben Gordon scored 18 as host Detroit handed Dwight Howard-less Orlando its fourth consecutive loss.
Glen Davis had a career-high 31 points and 10 rebounds starting for Howard (back spasms) for the second game, but again the Magic could not duplicate Howard’s defensive presence.
After Denver shot 55.6 percent Sunday, Detroit finished at 56.6 as Orlando allowed a season-high field goal percentage for the second straight game.
Guard Jameer Nelson (sore left calf) and forward Ryan Anderson (sprained right ankle) also sat out for Orlando.
Orlando’s Hedo Turkoglu scored 16, including 14 in the first half. Chris Duhon had 13.
Gordon, who also had seven assists and six rebounds, returned after missing three games with a sore groin. He started for Rodney Stuckey, who missed his third consecutive game with a sore left hamstring.
Tayshaun Prince and Jason Maxiell each scored 15 for Detroit, which is 8-2 in its last 10 home games. Jonas Jerebko scored 13.
Detroit used an 8-0 run to start the third for a 58-47 lead, but the Magic bounced back with nine consecutive points. The rest of the third quarter was a tight battle and ended 74-74.
Detroit again started fast in the fourth quarter with a 7-0 run and this time the Magic could not bounce back.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Detroit had a 56-30 advantage in points in the paint. … Duhon and Quentin Richardson replaced Nelson and Anderson. … Detroit’s Ben Wallace became the fourth active player with 7,000 defensive rebounds.
