Jason Richardson scored 35 points and the Phoenix Suns hit a franchise record 22 3-pointers in a 121-116 win over the Los Angeles Lakers on Sunday night.
The loss was the second in a row for the two-time defending NBA champions after winning their first eight games of the season.
Phoenix hit 55 percent of its 3-pointers (22-of-40) with Richardson making 7-of-10. Steve Nash had 21 points and 13 assists while Channing Frye scored 20 points off the bench.
Pau Gasol led the Lakers with 28 points and 17 rebounds. Kobe Bryant scored 25 points with 14 assists while Lamar Odom had 22 points.
Odom's basket with 53.7 seconds left cut the lead to 111-109, but he was called for a technical foul after protesting that a foul wasn't called on the play. Nash made the free throw, giving the Suns a three-point lead.
Hedo Turkoglu hit the Suns' final 3-pointer of the game with 34.7 seconds left, pushing the lead to 115-109.
The Suns had a 16-2 run in the second quarter and a 15-4 run in the third period.
Phoenix center Robin Lopez left the game in the second quarter with a sprained left knee and didn't return.
