Diamondbacks 1, Marlins 0: Brandon McCarthy pitched a three-hitter and Gerardo Parra homered on the game's opening pitch to lead visiting Arizona to its fourth straight victory.
McCarthy (1-3) walked two and struck out five while throwing 99 pitches en route to his third shutout and seventh complete game - and his first win in nine starts with the Diamondbacks. He also got some defensive help from Parra, who threw out a runner at the plate to end the first inning.
Tom Koehler (0-2) yielded one run and three hits while striking out a career-high seven in his third and longest major-league start for the Marlins, who have lost seven straight and 10 of their last 11. Miami, which has scored the fewest runs in baseball, was shut out for the eighth time.
Parra ripped Koehler's fastball into the Marlins bullpen for his third leadoff homer among his four this season. In the bottom half, Parra fielded Chris Coghlan's single to right and threw on the fly to catcher Miguel Montero, who tagged out Derek Dietrich on a close play.
McCarthy allowed two singles and a walk in the first inning before retiring 14 straight batters. Koehler was nearly as sharp, setting down 16 of the next 18 batters after Parra's home run before working out of a two-on, one-out jam in the sixth.
GAME NOTEBOOK: The Marlins are averaging 2.7 runs per game. ... Miami RHP Ryan Webb pitched 1 1/3 innings of relief to stretch his career-best scoreless streak to 16 2/3 frames over his last 12 appearances. ... Game time was 2 hours, 24 minutes.
