Cubs 3, Astros 0: Travis Wood pitched 7 2/3 shutout innings and scored the winning run as host Chicago finished off a three-game sweep of Houston.
Wood (3-3), who struck out four without a walk, retired the first 12 hitters he faced before giving up a leadoff double to J.D. Martinez in the fifth. The Astros' only other hits against Wood were singles by Jose Altuve in the sixth and Brian Bixler in the eighth. Shawn Camp recorded the final out of the eighth inning before Carlos Marmol came on in the ninth to record his third save in as many days.
Houston starter Wandy Rodriguez (6-6) traded zeroes with Wood for five innings before getting touched for three runs in the sixth. Wood led off with a double and took third on a groundout. After Starlin Castro was intentionally walked, Anthony Rizzo broke the scoreless deadlock by plating Wood with a base hit to right. Jeff Baker followed with a two-run double to left.
Rodriguez pitched seven innings, allowing three runs on five hits.
Carlos Lee had a ninth-inning double for the Astros. Houston had reached an agreement Sunday to trade Lee to the Dodgers, but Los Angeles pulled out of the deal later in the day as Lee was weighing a veto over the trade.
GAME NOTEBOOK: The start of the game was delayed 56 minutes due to rain ... Wood has allowed just one run in his last 20 innings ... Rizzo has three game-winning RBIs in five games since being called up by the Cubs last week ... Chicago LF Alfonso Soriano, 4-for-38 in his career against Rodriguez, was given the day off ... Castro and Cubs 1B Bryan LaHair were named to the National League All-Star team on Sunday, along with Houston's Altuve.
