PENGUINS 6, FLYERS 4: Matt Cooke had two goals and an assist as visiting Pittsburgh pulled even with its Keystone State rival in the standings, erupting for three goals in the third period to defeat Philadelphia on Saturday afternoon.

Dustin Jeffrey broke a 3-3 tie 37 seconds into the third period with his fourth goal of the season. Less than two minutes later, Pascal Dupuis banked a shot in off goalie Sergei Bobrovsky’s skate to secure the win.

James Neal added his 30th of the year at 9:02. Wayne Simmonds scored his 21st of the season at 19:41 for Philadelphia to cap the scoring.

After Cooke opened the scoring at 3:17, Jaromir Jagr gave the Flyers a 2-1 later in the period with two goals 18 seconds apart.

Jordan Staal evened things with the Penguins shorthanded and Cooke gave Pittsburgh a 3-2 lead on a breakaway goal with his team down two men. Flyers goalie Ilya Bryzgalov was booed off the ice after surrendering three goals on 13 shots.

Philadelphia rookie Eric Wellwood made it 3-3 at 18:41 of the second period with his first career NHL goal. He became the eighth Flyers freshman to score at least one goal this season, equaling the franchise record.

GAME NOTEBOOK: The Flyers have been outscored 18-6 in the first period of afternoon games this season. … Philadelphia’s James Van Riemsdyk – out since Jan. 12 with a concussion - returned to the lineup and had an assist. … All-Star Evgeni Malkin had an assist. He also hit two goal posts.
