Carolina Panthers kicker Graham Gano booted a 63-yard field goal with one second to play in a 33-31 victory against the visiting New York Giants on Sunday afternoon at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, N.C.

Cam Newton threw two touchdown passes and overcame a couple of interceptions. Newton was 21 of 35 for 237 yards as the Panthers (3-1) won for the third time at home.

Eli Manning threw 15 yards to running back Saquon Barkley for a touchdown with 1:08 remaining, and with the ensuing extra point, it looked like the Giants (1-4) would pull off a comeback victory. The go-ahead drive covered 75 yards in four plays for the Giants, who were out of timeouts.

Manning was 22 for 36 for 326 yards, but he was intercepted on consecutive second-half possessions by safety Mike Adams.

Barkley became just the third player in NFL history to record at least 100 yards from scrimmage in his first five career games.

The game marked the Carolina debut for safety Eric Reid, who was signed as a free agent to help a depleted secondary. Reid, whose protests with former San Francisco 49ers teammate Colin Kaepernick brought attention to him in the past, took a knee during the national anthem -- the only player on either team to do so.

There were plenty of momentum twists during the game.

With the Panthers leading 20-16 and lined up to punt, an offside penalty changed their plans -- and on fourth down, cornerback B.W. Webb was called for holding and subsequent unsportsmanlike conduct penalty. However, Newton threw a drive-ending interception three plays later.

In the fourth quarter, a third-down penalty on New York extended a drive that resulted in Newton's 18-yard touchdown pass to Christian McCaffrey for a 27-16 edge with 11:21 to play.

Newton's second interception of the half led -- two plays later -- to Manning's 33-yard touchdown strike to Odell Beckham Jr. Manning's two-point conversion pass to tight end Rhett Ellison made it 27-24 with 8:08 remaining.

It was Beckham's first touchdown of the season, though he became the first Giant since 1959 to catch and throw on touchdown plays in the same game.

Gano's 39-yard field goal made it 30-24 with 2:16 left.

Panthers receiver Curtis Samuel scored the game's first touchdown that gave the Panthers a 7-3 lead on a 25-yard pass play that included several broken tackles. Samuel, a second-year player out of Ohio State, posted his first career touchdown as he was active for the first time this season after dealing with an irregular heartbeat.

Carolina stretched its lead to 14-3 in the opening minute of the second quarter. A muffed punt by the Giants resulted in a wild scramble for the ball, with Panthers safety Colin Jones recovering in the end zone. For Jones, an eighth-year pro, it was his first career touchdown.

The Giants later turned to a trick play with Beckham throwing 57 yards to Barkley for a touchdown with 6:37 left in the first half, chopping Carolina's lead to 17-10.

Gano made two 47-yard field goals in the second quarter.

The Giants were within 20-13 at the half courtesy of Aldrick Rosas' 53-yard field goal with 20 seconds left.
