Miami (Fla.) 79, Akron 51: Sheldon McClellan led the way with 17 points on 7-of-11 shooting as the Hurricanes raced past the Zips in the semifinals of the Charleston Classic.

Angel Rodriguez added 15 points, nine assists and seven rebounds for Miami (4-0), which will take on Charlotte in Sunday's championship game. Manu Lecomte scored 14 points and Tonye Jekiri collected eight points and a career-high 16 rebounds for the Hurricanes.

Pat Forsythe had 11 points and six rebounds for Akron (2-1), which faces South Carolina for fifth place Sunday. Jake Kretzer added 11 points off the bench and Noah Robotham scored 10 for the Zips.

Omar Sherman capped an 11-2 run with back-to-back 3-pointers to give Miami a 22-17 lead with less than eight minutes remaining in the first half. Kwan Cheatham Jr.'s layup cut the deficit to one point before the Hurricanes pushed back and went into the break with a 35-30 cushion.

McClellan buried a 3-pointer and set James Palmer up for another during an 8-0 burst that spread the lead to 48-33. Akron called timeout and scored out of the stoppage but could not stop Miami, which scored on its next three possessions and pushed the advantage to 66-41 on Rodriguez’s three-point play before cruising to the finish.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Lecomte went 2-of-3 from 3-point range and is 9-of-17 through the first four games. … Akron went 7-of-26 while being outscored 44-21 in the second half. … The Zips were playing their second straight game without preseason All-Mid-American Conference F Demetrius Treadwell, who was suspended indefinitely for a violation of the school’s student-athlete code of conduct.
