No. 14 Wichita State 61, Evansville 41: Darius Carter had 18 points and 11 rebounds as the visiting Shockers defeated the Purple Aces to record their 24th consecutive Missouri Valley Conference victory.

Ron Baker had 18 points and recorded season highs of four steals and three blocked shots for Wichita State (16-2, 6-0). Shaquille Morris contributed nine points off the bench as the Shockers won their sixth consecutive game.

D.J. Balentine scored 16 points on 6-of-17 shooting for Evansville (13-5, 3-3), which shot 30 percent from the field and committed 14 turnovers. Egidijus Mockevicius, who has 13 double-doubles, had eight rebounds and four blocked shots but scored just two points.

Wichita State led by 10 points at the break and quickly extended it to 19 on Carter’s basket with just over 14 minutes to play. A 3-pointer by Baker made it 51-28 with 8:43 remaining, but Evansville answered with an 11-2 burst to get within 14 on Jaylon Moore’s three-point play before the Shockers scored the next eight points to seal it.

The score was tied at nine just over five minutes into the contest before the Shockers went on a 9-2 run with Carter’s basket making it 18-11. The Purple Aces scored the next four points before going scoreless for over nine minutes and Wichita State rattled off 10 straight for a 13-point lead and settled for a 28-18 halftime advantage.

GAME NOTEBOOK: The Shockers improved to 43-9 on the road since the beginning of the 2010-11 campaign. … Evansville was 2-of-8 from 3-point range and was outrebounded 38-26. … Baker made two 3-point baskets to raise his career total to 140, tying for eighth most in school history with Ryan Herrs (1992-96).
