No. 7 Louisville 78, Virginia Tech 63: Terry Rozier scored 16 points and was one of four players to finish in double figures as the host Cardinals routed the Hokies.

Wayne Blackshear poured in 15 points while Montrezl Harrell and Mangok Mathiang each added 11 points and eight rebounds for Louisville (15-2, 2-1 ACC), which knocked down 10 3-pointers and will host No. 4 Duke on Saturday. Chris Jones handed out a career-high 11 assists as the Cardinals tied a season low with seven turnovers.

Adam Smith went 5-of-7 beyond the arc and scored a game-high 19 points for Virginia Tech (8-8, 0-3), which has dropped 19 of its last 20 in league play, including 10 in a row on the road. Justin Bibbs tallied 11 of his 15 points after intermission while Ahmed Hill chipped in 14 points to round out the Hokies’ double-digit scorers.

Virginia Tech misfired on seven of its first eight shots and Louisville quickly took advantage, getting eight early points from Rozier during a game-opening 17-2 run. The Hokies recovered and twice closed the gap to single digits thereafter, but a three-point play by Jones and five points from Blackshear keyed a 10-0 spurt over the final 2 ½ minutes of the first half to extend the Cardinals’ lead to 43-24 at the break.

Blackshear and Rozier each drained 3-pointers in the opening two minutes of the second half and Louisville stretched its advantage to as much as 29 following back-to-back buckets by Harrell with 12 ½ minutes left. After Louisville removed the last of its starters with just under five minutes to go, Virginia Tech was able to make the final tally more respectable by scoring 11 of the game’s last 15 points.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Louisville is holding opponents to an average of 50.8 points in 12 home games. … Virginia Tech, which has dropped 10 in a row in this series, will play the second of four consecutive ranked foes on Sunday when it hosts No. 16 North Carolina. … Harrell appeared to suffer a lower-body injury midway through the second half and did not return.
