No. 20 San Diego State 118, St. Katherine 35: Winston Shepard set career highs with 21 points and five steals as the host Aztecs routed the Firebirds.

Shepard added eight rebounds and five assists while Dwayne Polee II collected personal bests of 19 points and 12 rebounds for San Diego State (10-1), which has held three straight opponents to fewer than 40 points for the first time since 1947. The Aztecs also topped the 100-point plateau for the first time since recording a 119-82 victory over Campbell on Dec. 12, 2006.

Joshua White led the way with nine points for St. Katherine (2-12), which shot 22.1 percent from the field. The Firebirds – a San Diego-based school in its inaugural season – have dropped all three of their games against Division I opponents by an average of 68.7 points after losses to Utah Valley and Weber State.

Matt Shrigley tallied all nine of his first-half points in the first 3½ minutes as San Diego State scored the first 13 points. The Aztecs, who drained eight of their 10 3-point attempts over the opening 20 minutes, built a 20-1 lead before St. Katherine converted its first field goal with 12:34 left before intermission and rolled off 14 straight points later in the half to stretch the margin to 33.

San Diego State took a 63-17 advantage into the break as Aqeel Quinn accounted for his team’s last seven points and the Aztecs continued to pour it on in the second half behind 11 quick points from Shepard. San Diego State outrebounded St. Katherine 57-32 and forced 22 turnovers.
