Stanford 79, Cal Poly 62: Chasson Randle and Stefan Nastic scored 20 points apiece and the Cardinal never trailed against the visiting Mustangs.

Dwight Powell collected 15 points and eight rebounds for Stanford (9-3), which shot 58.1 percent and won for the fourth time in its last five games. Josh Huestis added 10 points and nine rebounds, and Nastic reached a career-high in points while converting all seven of his shots from the field.

Chris Eversley paced Cal Poly (4-8) with 25 points and Joel Awich added 11. The Mustangs trailed 33-20 after shooting 25.7 percent in the first half and never seriously threatened after the break.

Randle, the reigning Pac-12 Player of the Week, made back-to-back 3-pointers to put Stanford ahead 48-33 with 14 minutes left, and the lead ballooned to 23 points less than four minutes later. John Gage chipped in eight points for Stanford, which opens Pac-12 play Thursday against California.

Cal Poly, which was coming off a 17-point loss at Pittsburgh, shot 35.4 percent from the field and missed 15 of its 20 shots from 3-point range. David Nwaba missed eight of his 11 shots and finished with six points for Cal Poly, which fell to 2-7 against Pac-12 opponents under fifth-year coach Joe Callero.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Stanford F Rosco Allen made his season debut and was held scoreless after missing the first 11 games due to a stress fracture. … Stanford improved to 6-1 all-time against Cal Poly, which visits Delaware on Saturday before starting Big West play against Hawaii on Jan. 9. … Stanford coach Johnny Dawkins used the starting lineup of Randle, Huestis, Powell, Nastic and Anthony Brown in all 12 nonconference games.
