Georgia Tech 78, Maryland 68: Freshman Robert Carter Jr. scored 19 points with 10 rebounds as the host Yellow Jackets led comfortably for most of the second half.

Brandon Reed hit three 3-pointers and scored 17 points for Georgia Tech (15-12, 5-10 ACC), and Daniel Miller added 16 points and nine rebounds. The Yellow Jackets shot 51 percent from the field, scoring seven of the first nine points of the second half to move ahead 47-37 on Carter’s jumper with 17:07 left.

Dez Wells led Maryland (19-9, 7-8) with 15 points. Maryland shot 4-for-19 from 3-point range.

Down 17-14 in the first half, the Yellow Jackets used a 17-5 run to build a 31-22 lead on Marcus Georges-Hunt’s 3-pointer with 5:09 remaining in the half. Maryland closed within 38-33 at the break, but the Yellow Jackets quickly pushed the lead back to double digits after halftime.

Alex Len added 13 points and nine rebounds for the Terrapins. Maryland, which was fourth in the nation in rebounding entering the game, were outrebounded 34-32.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Carter finished with his fourth double-double of the season. … Miller, the ACC’s leader in blocked shots, finished with three and went 12-for-12 from the free-throw line. … Georgia Tech recorded a season-high 22 assists.
