Louisiana State 79, Bethune-Cookman 63: Charles Carmouche had 17 points and seven rebounds to lead the host Tigers past the Wildcats in the first game ever played between the programs.

Shavon Coleman had 14 points and 12 rebounds for Louisiana State (9-2) while Anthony Hickey came off the bench and scored 14 points after sitting out the Tigers’ previous game against Houston Baptist for an undisclosed disciplinary reason. Andrew Del Piero added 10 points to help the Tigers improve to 8-0 at home and win their final non-conference game before beginning Southeastern Conference play at Auburn on Wednesday.

Bethune-Cookman (5-10) was led by forward Adrien Coleman, who had a game-high 24 points and seven rebounds. Alex Smith had 10 points, 10 rebounds, six steals and seven blocked shots for the Wildcats, who fell to 1-8 on the road.

Louisiana State jumped out to an 11-0 lead and never trailed. The Tigers led 38-30 at halftime. Bethune-Cookman pulled within six points 38-32 on Smith’s jumper with 19:25 to play but LSU's Andre Stringer countered with a 3-pointer to make it 41-32 and the Tigers cruised the rest of the way.

LSU committed 16 turnovers while Bethune-Cookman had 14 miscues. The Tigers shot 52.6 percent (30-for-57) from the field and the Wildcats shot 36.8 percent (21-for-57).

GAME NOTEBOOK: Louisiana State sophomore forward Johnny O’Bryant III came off the bench and played in the second half. O’Bryant, who had not played since the Dec. 22 game at Marquette because of a leg injury, finished with two points. … Louisiana State registered 18 assists, while Bethune-Cookman had only four. … The Wildcats used only eight players in the game.
