Texas 65, Sam Houston State 37: Sheldon McClellan came off the bench to finish with 16 points and eight rebounds as the host Longhorns continued their recent domination over the in-state Bearkats.

Jonathan Holmes added 11 points and eight rebounds for Texas (4-2), which has won six straight games in the series.

Holmes converted a layup and McClellan a 3-pointer to spark an early 12-0 run that broke open a tie game as the Longhorns allowed only one Sam Houston State player to score over the first 11:37 of the contest.

The Bearkats (3-4) threatened to close to within single digits a number of times over the remainder of the first half and beginning of the second. Texas held Sam Houston State to four field goals over the final 11:49, which allowed it to turn an 11-point advantage into a 28-point bulge in the final minutes.

Paul Baxter scored 12 points to lead the Bearkats, who shot just 21 percent from the field.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Texas improved to 84-3 in non-conference home games since the start of the 2002-03 season. … Sam Houston State’s 18 first-half points were a season low for a half and its 37 points was its lowest output since matching that total in a loss to Texas A&M on Dec. 7, 2010. … The 37 points allowed was also the lowest total yielded by the Longhorns since they opened the 2007-08 season with a 58-37 win over Texas-San Antonio.
