Freshman Aaron White finished with 17 points and nine rebounds Saturday as Iowa downed visiting Penn State 77-64.

Matt Gatens added a team-high 18 points and Bryce Cartwright added 17 more for the Hawkeyes (13-11, 5-6 Big Ten), who defeated the Nittany Lions (10-14, 2-9) for the ninth straight time at Carver-Hawkeye Arena.

Iowa jumped all over slow-starting Penn State, running out to a 16-2 advantage less than seven minutes into the game. The Nittany Lions missed 14 of their first 16 shots.

The Hawkeyes took a 36-19 lead at the break and led by as many as 26 points early in the second half, before Penn State started to find its range after shooting just 26.7 percent in the first half.

Iowa also enjoyed a substantial advantage from the foul line, going 29-of-34 and enjoying a 25-point margin from the stripe.

Tim Frazier, the Big Ten’s second-leading scorer, scored 23 points for Penn State, which scored more than 54 points for the first time in five games.
