Reginald Buckner scored a career-high 19 points and host Mississippi defeated No. 15 Mississippi State 75-68 on Wednesday for their first victory over the Bulldogs since 2009.

Buckner added 15 rebounds and three blocked shots for the Rebels (12-6, 2-2 SEC), who snapped a five-game losing streak to their in-state rivals and ended the Bulldogs’ five-game winning streak.

Up by five points at halftime, the Rebels led throughout the second half. Jarvis Summers’ basket with 7:56 to go pushed Mississippi’s lead to 55-47, but the Bulldogs played their way back into it.

Renardo Sidney scored six consecutive points, and Dee Bost’s 3-pointer with 4:24 remaining brought Mississippi State within 59-56.

But Summers hit another jumper and Murphy Holloway’s first basket of the game with 3:22 to go gave the Rebels a 63-56 advantage. The Bulldogs (15-4, 2-2) got no closer than three points the rest of the way.

The Rebels rode strong defense to a 38-33 halftime lead, holding Bost and Arnett Moultrie, two of the top five scorers in the SEC, to a combined six points.

Nick Williams scored 17 points for the Rebels, who committed a season-low five turnovers in improving to 8-0 at home this season.

Sidney scored 17 points to lead Mississippi State. Moultrie added 10 points and 12 rebounds.
