Doug McDermott scored 25 points and grabbed 11 rebounds as No. 21 Creighton held off Southern Illinois 90-71 on Sunday in Omaha to improve its winning streak to six.

McDermott, a 6-foot-7 sophomore, was 8-for-14 from the field and a season-best 9-for-9 from the line. It was his sixth double-double of the season and his first since Dec. 28 against Missouri State.

Creighton (16-2, 6-1 MVC), which remained tied with Wichita State for first place in the Missouri Valley Conference, also got an outstanding floor game from Antoine Young, who scored 14 points and handled the ball effectively against the Southern Illinois press and had six assists.

Southern Illinois (6-12, 3-4 MVC) was led by T.J. Lindsay with 13 points and five rebounds and Jeff Early with 11 points. Mamadou Seck had 10 points and eight rebounds.

Creighton led 48-36 at halftime, but Southern Illinois was able to cut the lead to four points (59-55) before the Bluejays regained their footing and regained control with a 12-1 run.
