Toney McCray scored 20 points as Nebraska overcame a poor shooting effort in the first half to down visiting Alcorn State 60-46 on Saturday.

Brandon Ubel added 13 points and eight rebounds for Huskers (7-3), who won their third straight game to match their season high.

Nebraska played without starting center Jorge Brian Diaz, who reportedly suffered a foot injury this week.

Even without leading scorer Marquis Baker, sidelined by a broken foot since Nov. 25, Alcorn State hung around much longer than expected due primarily to the struggles of the Huskers’ own leading scorer, Bo Spencer.

Spencer shot 3-of-12 from field and scored only 11 points.

The Huskers shot 39.6 percent, but hit only 30.8 of its field-goal attempts in the first half to take a 23-21 halftime lead as Spencer missed each of his first six shots.

The Braves (2-8) pulled to within one point on several occasions in the second half, but an alley-oop dunk from Spencer to Caleb Walker ignited a 13-0 run that allowed Nebraska to pull away late.

Kendrick McDonald paced Alcorn State with 16 points.
