Freshman Rodney Hood hit the go-ahead jumper with 17.7 seconds remaining, and No. 16 Mississippi State held on to extend its winning streak to 10 games with a 80-75 victory at Detroit.

The Bulldogs (11-1) matched their longest winning streak since opening 2003-04 with 13 straight wins, winning the 1,300th game in program history. Mississippi State led by three at halftime, then stormed to a 56-41 lead on Brian Bryant’s jumper with 15:10 remaining.

The Titans (5-8) rallied, pulling even at 70-70 on Chase Simon’s three-point play with 2:31 to go. The Titans fell behind 74-70, but Ray McCallum’s driving basket with 40 seconds tied the game at 75.

Hood hit a short jumper from the right side of the lane on the next possession, putting the Bulldogs up 77-75 with 17.7 seconds left. Detroit drove inside, but Arnett Moultrie blocked Eli Holman’s layup attempt at the rim, and the Bulldogs grabbed the rebound with seven seconds remaining.

Moultrie, the SEC’s leading rebounder who missed Tuesday’s victory over Florida Atlantic with knee tendinitis, came off the bench to finish with 17 points and 13 rebounds. Bryant also scored 17 points off the bench. Renardo Sidney scored 16 points.

Dee Bost hit three 3-pointers and finished with 13 points for the Bulldogs.

Simon and McCallum each scored 17 points to lead Detroit. The Titans have lost five of their past seven and haven’t beaten a ranked team at home since defeating No. 23 Butler on Jan. 10, 2002.

Mississippi State hosts Northwestern State on Thursday. Detroit hosts Alabama State, Thursday.
