Brandon Reed scored 16 points and Daniel Miller added 12 points on a perfect 6-for-6 shooting performance as Georgia Tech rolled to a 65-45 victory in its first-ever visit to Savannah State on Saturday.

The Yellow Jackets (6-4) finished off a three-game road trip by improving to 26-0 against teams from the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference.

Georgia Tech’s first trip to the 6,000-seat Tiger Arena was successful thanks to a dominating inside game that outscored Savannah State 36-18 in the paint. The Yellow Jackets shot 58 percent in the second half (15-of-26).

Rashad Hassan and Preston Blackmon each scored 10 points for Savannah State (3-7). The Tigers, who are in their first season as a member of the MEAC, hosted a BCS school for just the second time in their 10-year Division I history.

They struggled mightily against one of the better defenses in the nation, shooting just 31 percent (17-of-54), including 4-of-17 from beyond the arc.

Georgia Tech held a modest 26-19 halftime lead, but broke the game open with a 14-2 run to start the second half and led by as many as 25 points.

The victory is another small step in the right direction for first-year coach Brian Gregory and Georgia Tech, which is trying to recover from a 13-win season amidst NCAA sanctions. It came two days after Georgia Tech beat rival Georgia on the road for the first time in 35 years.

Georgia Tech isn’t just rebuilding on the court, though. The Yellow Jackets will technically be on the road all season while their new state-of-the-art arena is being constructed. Georgia Tech hosts Alabama A&M on Monday at the Arena at Gwinnett Center - one of its two temporary homes.
