Reggie Hamilton scored a career-high 35 points and Oakland (Mich.) defeated visiting Tennessee 89-81 on Monday for the second consecutive year.

Hamilton had six rebounds and was 15-of-15 from the free-throw line as Oakland (4-2) improved to 43-2 in its last 45 home games.

Tennessee (3-3) cut the Oakland lead to three points midway through the second half, but Hamilton scored five straight to stretch the Golden Grizzlies’ lead to 67-59 with seven minutes to go.

Jordan McRae scored 25 points and Cameron Tatum added 19 for Tennessee, which was coming off an encouraging showing at last week’s Maui Invitational.

The Volunteers were outrebounded 38-27 by Oakland, which was picked to finish second in the Summit League. Corey Petros had a game-high 13 rebounds for the Golden Grizzlies.

Drew Valentine had 15 points and Laval Lucas-Perry scored 14 for Oakland, which beat the Volunteers 89-82 in Knoxville last season.
