Nasir Robinson scored 22 points in a near-perfect performance from the field as No. 11 Pittsburgh held on at home against upset-minded Rider, 86-78.

Robinson finished 9 of 10 from the field and hit all four of his free throws as the Panthers (2-0) moved to 151-12 all-time at the Petersen Events Center, including an 81-0 record against non-conference opponents in November and December.

Ashton Gibbs, named the Preseason Big East Player of the Year, scored a game-high 24 points for Pittsburgh.

Less than halfway through the first half, the Panthers jumped out to a 14-point lead, but Rider stormed back to knot the game at 45-45 at half. The Broncs hit two of their five first-half 3-pointers in the final 54 seconds before the break.

The Broncs (0-2) continued their momentum well into the second half, even taking a 61-55 lead with 11:41 remaining, but fell apart late on defense as Pittsburgh hit five 3-pointers over the remainder of the game to pull away.

Rider shot a woeful 35 percent (16 of 45) and committed 25 turnovers in their 26-point season-opening loss to Robert Morris, but was much sharper in both areas against the Panthers, finishing with just five turnovers while shooting 54 percent (30 of 56).

Anthony Myles scored 20 points for the Broncs, who lost their first two games of the season for the first time since the 2005-06 season.
