Seniors Billy White and D.J. Gay scored 15 points apiece and No. 6 San Diego State was hardly tested while cruising to an 85-53 victory over visiting Utah on Tuesday.

The Aztecs (24-1, 9-1 Mountain West) used an early 21-3 run to ensure it would be an easy night while notching their 17th consecutive homecourt victory.

Will Clyburn scored a team-high 18 points as Utah (10-14, 3-7) lost its fourth straight game.

The Utes trailed 7-6 less than four minutes into the game before San Diego State center Malcolm Thomas made a rare 3-point basket to start a five-minute spurt that gave the Aztecs a 28-9 lead just 8 1/2 minutes into the contest.

There was little suspense the rest of the contest as San Diego State moved a half-game ahead of Brigham Young in the Mountain West standings. BYU can reclaim a share of first-place it if wins at Air Force on Wednesday.

Gay had six assists and didn’t commit a turnover for the third consecutive game as the Aztecs committed just four turnovers.

Aztecs sophomore Kawhi Leonard had 12 points and 14 rebounds for his 34th career double-double. Jamaal Franklin scored 13 points and Brian Carlwell added 10.

Utah shot just 35.5 percent from the field.

The Aztecs rolled despite being without starting guard Chase Tapley (ankle) and reserve forward Tim Shelton (foot). Both players were injured in Saturday’s victory over TCU.
