Texas' promising freshman Tristan Thompson scored 17 points, grabbed seven rebounds and blocked three shots to lead the 25th-ranked Longhorns to a 89-58 rout of visiting Louisiana Tech, Wednesday in Austin.

The Longhorns (2-0), who started slow in Monday's win over Navy, wasted no time in getting after the Bulldogs. They led by 16 at half and were on cruise control for much of the second half. Jordan Hamilton continued his hot early start to the season with 19 points to lead the Longhorns in scoring for the second straight game.

Texas continued to struggle from the 3-point line, hitting just 4-of-16 attempts and is now 8-of-33 in its first two games.

Brandon Gibson led Louisiana Tech (0-1) with 16 points. The Bulldogs shot just 33.3 percent from the field and turned the ball over 22 times..

The Longhorns will have a full week off before returning to face No. 16 Illinois on Nov. 18 in Championship Round of the 2K Sport Challenge/Coaches vs. Cancer in New York City.

Louisiana Tech will look to bounce back at home against Austin College Friday.
