Wizards 116, 76ers 102: John Wall scored 24 points and dished out a game-high nine assists as visiting Washington rode a fast start and held off Philadelphia for its first win of the season.

Wall led a long-range barrage, connecting on a career-high five 3-pointers for the Wizards, who staved off the embarrassment of a third straight 0-4 start. Marcin Gortat added 19 points and a team-high 12 rebounds for Washington, which had seven players score in double figures and made a franchise-record 18 3-pointers in 33 attempts.

Evan Turner pitched in 24 points on 9-of-13 shooting and also contributed four assists for the 76ers, who dropped their second straight after a 3-0 start. Center Spencer Hawes added 23 points and 13 rebounds and rookie point guard Michael Carter-Williams finished with 19 points and seven assists despite a second consecutive slow start.

The Wizards were hot off the opening jump, building a 39-24 lead in the first quarter, led by 10 points from Gortat, who made five of his first six field-goal attempts. Philadelphia trimmed the lead to 60-51 at halftime, as Hawes compiled 12 of his points by the break, while Carter-Williams - named Eastern Conference Player of the Week on Monday - missed nine of his first 11 shots.

Turner did his best to draw the Sixers close, scoring 11 points in the third quarter. Philadelphia pulled within six with 2:48 left in the period but Washington completed a 9-0 run early in the final stanza, led by five points from Wall, and kept the hosts at bay down the stretch.

GAME NOTEBOOK: The Wizards took three times as long to get their first win in 2012-13, losing 12 in a row to start the year. ... Carter-Williams shot 46.8 percent in the 76ers' three wins to open the season compared to 31.6 percent during the current two-game skid. ... Washington F Nene, who missed two games with a calf injury, started and played 29 minutes, finishing with 10 points and five rebounds.
