Rookie Bryan De La Cruz slugged a grand slam during an 11-run second inning, leading the host Miami Marlins to a 14-10 win over the Chicago Cubs on Friday night.

Chicago lost its ninth straight game. Cubs starter Adbert Alzolay (4-13), who leads the league in losses, took the defeat, allowing six runs, five hits and one walk in 1 1/3 innings. Alzolay left the game due to left hamstring tightness.

Cubs reliever Dan Winkler followed Alzolay and allowed six runs without retiring a batter.

The Cubs have allowed 31 runs in their past two games and 41 in the past three.

Alex Jackson, another Marlins rookie, hit a three-run homer during that second inning as Miami rolled in the first game for manager Don Mattingly since he tested positive for COVID-19. The Marlins went 4-8 with interim manager James Rowson replacing Mattingly.

Jesus Aguilar, who leads the league with 82 RBIs, added a two-run homer and a run-scoring groundout.

Jesus Luzardo (4-5) earned the win. He allowed leadoff walks in the first and second innings, and Chicago scored two runs in each frame. Luzardo labored through five innings, allowing six hits, four walks and five runs.

Chicago opened the scoring in the first as Matt Duffy drew a walk and David Bote drove him in with a 423-foot homer to left.

Miami got one back in the bottom of the first. Miguel Rojas singled, advanced to second on a groundout, went to third on a balk and scored on Aguilar's groundout.

Chicago made it 4-1 in the second as Ian Happ walked, Johneshwy Fargas tripled off the wall, and Sergio Alcantara lofted a sacrifice fly.

Miami broke the game open with its epic second inning, sending 15 batters to the plate. Miami got eight hits in the inning, including De La Cruz's first career grand slam. De La Cruz nearly hit a slam on the previous pitch, but it went foul.

That second inning also included two walks, two hit-by-pitches, one passed ball and one steal. Besides De La Cruz's slam, the biggest hits were Jackson's three-run homer and Lewis Brinson's two-run double.

De La Cruz went 2-for-2 in the 50-minute inning, adding a single. Rojas was the only non-pitcher to record an out in the inning, grounding out to end the frame.

Chicago mounted a comeback with a solo homer from Robinson Chirinos in the fifth and a pair of two-run shots from Frank Schwindel and Happ in the eighth.

Schwindel doubled and scored on Rafael Ortega's RBI single in the ninth, but it wasn't enough.
